SailGP, the annual sailing series, has today opened the bid process for season three, indicating that it wants to race in cities committed to sustainability.

With the coronavirus pandemic having impacted its ability to operate seasons in calendar years, the third season of SailGP will run from May 2022 to March 2023.

Details on the bid process can be accessed via Venues@SailGP.com, with cities needing to express interest by next month.

SailGP has also recruited Guntur Dwiarmein as lead venues analyst to work closely on the assignment of host cities. He officially starts next week.

Dwiarmein has been a consultant at I Trust Sport, a consultancy firm dedicated to improving the governance of international sport. He has worked with international federations, governing bodies and major event bid committees, brands and rights holders.

SailGP has not indicated how many host cities it is seeking, but it will want to at least match the eight on the schedule for 2021-22: Hamilton (Bermuda); Taranto (Italy); Plymouth (UK); Aarhus (Denmark); Saint-Tropez (France); Cadiz (Spain); Christchurch (New Zealand); and San Francisco (USA).

The series has specifically requested interest from cities that are “committed to creating a better future to be part of its sustainable global racing calendar.
