Air Quality & Sport Challenge opens

February 15, 2022

Companies and organisations around the world are being encouraged to enter the Air Quality & Sport Challenge, an initiative aimed at generating innovative and impactful solutions for international sports.

The impact air quality has on athletes, events, organisers and spectators has become a growing concern within the sports industry and around the globe in recent years. The issue is larger than any one organisation and can only be addressed through collaboration, commitment and determination across industries.

The Air Quality & Sport Challenge has been launched by ThinkSport, together with the Sustainable Sport Lab (SSL), the Sustainable Mountain Alliance (SMA) and with the support of numerous sporting bodies, including World Athletics and the International Olympic Committee.

It is hoped that it will inspire viable and creative solutions which can be leveraged not just by international sport federations, but also by sport event organisers, mountain resorts and athletes in a bid to tackle climate change.

Applications are open now. Start-ups, established companies, not-for-profit organisations, academic, public institutions and other stakeholders have until 21 March to submit their action proposals, which must address one of the following pressing topics:

• Measure and mitigate the effect of poor air quality on athletes
• Solutions that clean polluted air and / or reduce air pollution
• Rethink mobility
