In line with its commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility, Bank Muscat has announced that it has started accepting applications for the 2021 edition of its Green Sports programme. The bank’s longest running CSR programme will support the development of 15 football fields in Oman in its landmark 10th year. Applications from sports teams across the Sultanate will be accepted by the bank till 6 January 2021.

As part of development, this year’s program is moving to digital submission of applications. All teams planning to apply for Green Sports support should note that applications will be accepted only online. The registration process is user-friendly and can be easily completed using a computer, a mobile phone or a tablet. To apply, teams should go to https://www.bankmuscat.com/greensports/ and submit the application form and supporting documents before the last date.

The criteria for availing the Green Sports support include that sports teams should have been in existence for at least three years and have a minimum of 300 members. Teams should be able to provide documents including the Mulkiya of the land on which the sports field is situated, the team’s latest income statement and a letter from their Wali. Also, the dimensions of the sports field should be as per FIFA approved standards to be considered. Teams should showcase their positive impact and contributions to the local community.

The Green Sports initiative launched by Bank Muscat in 2012 has gained momentum with a total of 123 sports teams across the Sultanate benefiting from the support till date. The scope of Green Sports support for sports teams include greening of football fields with natural or synthetic turf, floodlights or water desalination equipment in areas facing problems of water salinity. Ensuring wider representation, the Green Sports programme extends to develop sustainable sports infrastructure in all parts of the Sultanate. The bank will extend its support to 15 teams in 2021 under the programme.

As the nation’s leading financial institution, Bank Muscat aims to provide avenues to the youth to excel in all arenas and thereby contribute to the overall development and progress of Oman. Its CSR programme recognises and takes into consideration the fact that local teams have a major influence on neighbourhood communities, especially the youth. The football fields developed as part of the Green Sports initiative can also be used as a venue for social activities, leading to stronger community bonding.
