The project was implemented by the Hellenic Olympic Committee in cooperation with the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and METAdrasis, the project coordinator, a Greek NGO which works to facilitate the reception and integration of refugees and immigrants in Greece. The main objective of the successful program is to promote social cohesion through sport.
Here are the results of the project:
– 9041 beneficiary children and adolescents up to 18 years old, compared to the initial target of 3000 children
– 65 sport events. Including sports training in Athens, Piraeus, Kavala, Drama, Ioanna and Mytilini on a weekly basis.
– 13 sports training: volleyball and beach volleyball, basketball, handball, tennis, fencing, cricket, swimming, soccer, athletics, judo, wrestling, taekwondo,
– 118 volunteer coaches. Training of volunteers in coaching skills, but also in Olympic values and volunteerism.
– Several synergies with municipalities, public schools, sports clubs, public and private sports institutions, the Hellenic Supreme Council of Athletes of the Armed Forces(ASAED), NGOs and the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum.
– Significant donations of sports equipment to government institutions and sports clubs in the amount of €28,302.00.
But the most important… Countless children’s smiles – nationals and refugees, including unaccompanied minors – that we were able to bring together through the “Together in Sport” project, giving them the opportunity to learn about the importance of sport and develop relationships of friendship and respect.
The project was co-funded by the European Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).
