The International Federation of American Football, IFAF, has partnered with Play It Green as it looks to set new standards in meeting its sustainability vision.

The global governing body for the sport of American Football, whose membership includes seventy-one nations and runs a number of international tournaments, including the World Championships, has teamed up with the award-winning sustainability specialists Play It Green.

IFAF President Richard MacLean welcomed the relationship saying, “IFAF has a clear objective to balance the social, economic and environmental impact of the sport of American football.

“IFAF and its members are driven to support the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the IOC’s Sustainability Strategy and make a positive impact on a series of the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Through being partnered with Play It Green, IFAF and its members will have access to sector expertise to support education and development.”

Chris Thair, Play It Green Co-Founder and former CEO of two sports governing bodies, said, “Sport has always been tremendously powerful in supporting many of society’s issues due to its huge popular appeal.

“IFAF is in a hugely influential position so the ripple effect of taking positive steps on sustainability will influence their members, other sports and their fanbase, creating a hugely positive impact.

“Play It Green are delighted to be teaming up with IFAF, helping them achieve their sustainability vision and create a more sustainable future for both the sport of American Football and the millions of people involved.”

IFAF released its Sustainability Vision in 2021 and is committed to upholding the five Principles of the UN’s Sports for Climate Action Framework. This includes undertaking systematic efforts to promote greater environmental responsibility, reducing overall climate impact, and educating, promoting, and advocating for climate action and sustainability.

Initially, IFAF will work to understand the impact its events currently have on the environment and ensure that its commitment to Sustainable Development is enshrined in its hosting agreements and event planning.

As part of its commitment, IFAF also aims to provide training, make its 2022 Congress in Birmingham, Alabama, a climate positive event, and use its events as vehicles for positive change.

Play It Green help people and businesses repair the planet through tree planting, lower their carbon footprint to aid them on their journey to net zero, and have a social impact by supporting good causes.
